i love me ranger because:

i like long range attacks, but hate spellcaster classes
after learning how to better control it, i enjoy taming pets and having them tank for me
expertise maxed makes damn near any secondary feasible
and best of all....... my ranger is a smexy barraging beast

oh yeah
jin, pyre, magrid adds to the awesomeness of my ranger. kinda feel sorry for mobs when they see all the arrows flyin and animals running at them

All great reasons to love your Ranger...what's not to love?
Playing a ranger for so long I can effectively use landscape to pull exactly what I want, where I want it...everytime!
BTW she is the sexiest beast-barrage toon and I've had her for nearly 5 years, first toon I ever made in GW that I would never part with!

I love my ranger for its survivability.
Attacking from a distance keeps me out of harms way for a majority of the time. And then there's the fact that they take half the elemental damage that casters are subject to, meaning long range spells that hit me when I'm in the back can be pretty much shrugged off.

Then there's the pet.
An experienced beastmaster can add what equates to another team-mate to the party, not just another body. The past month or so I've mainly run with a pet and can easily complete anything that was slightly difficult alone.

I totally forgot to mention why I love mine so much. Mainly its because I can pretty much do anything I want to with a ranger and be good at is reason enough.
eg: crafting pulls that baffle my team mates, solo'ing uw, being able to spam SY better than an imbagon, or having access to the greatest primary attribute in guild wars.
Kudos to the best class in guild wars.

I'd not be surprised if part of the reason the ranger is struggling to a measure is BECAUSE it's meant to be the jack-of-all-trades. From what I've seen in games like EQ2 and WoW, efficacy is mostly about maximizing SOMETHING. Looking at other classes' mechanisms (and granted this is coming from a comparative novice who only has Factions, and hasn't even completed that campaign), warriors maximize tanking, mesmers maximize shutdown, assassins and elementalists maximize DpS, etc.

I'm the sort who LIKES the jack-of-all-trades classes (e.g. the ranger here), whether or not they have heavy damage/healing/etc. output. When I started WoW, I stuck with the shaman even though I was first playing at a time when shamans were less than well regarded (mid-2007). Didn't matter to me; the sheer variety of skill types the shaman had available was the main draw (weapon imbuals, healing, effect totems, missile spells...what's missing, really?), NOT how high a number I could put forth. Kind of silly to make a support class a demigod of slaughter, anyway. (How DID PvP become so important in WoW, anyway, when it was originally planned to just be casual?)

Because Nothing is better than finding that healer who feels so special and shooting him rite between the eyes with a broad head arrow and watching him panic as my rapid fire shots interrupt him over and over and over again. Daze and Rapid Fire is a really powerful combination on any caster boss.

And as far as PVP goes... I love when people cuss me out because they cant cast anything.

lol exactly, besides to add to me previous post, i like thinking of my ranger as a special kind of assassin. Shoot arrows that don't have points but have big lead balls that just beat the underworld out of everything they touch.

I actually named my pvp ranger "Jeff Bots Ranger" because I too love that reaction. I like to imply in RA chat that I bot to get people steamed up. And of course the tag [iBot]. If you can rupt 3/4 cast you are seen as either lucky or bot. Everyone gets mad. This is why I love ranger.

I took a few screens during Novemeber that I'm quite proud of. http://s1182.photobucket.com/home/JeffDoesGW/index

I really love rangers in PvP, cause they can really do anything they want and be useful. And idk, just the way the character moves, feels like every single shot is gonna have a HUGE impact. It can't be explained by words. However, in PvE... I can feel pretty well with imagining my ranger walk through the echovald forest with a few good friends (henchs ofc) and trying to battle their way through a hard situation, but then the gameplay really sucks so... eh. I guess I'll stick to playing my ranger in PvP. And ofc, in UWsc and other stuff, but thats not really PvE :P More like PvWoW

Geez...I think deep down inside, I always love playing a ranger. As mention before, it's a jack of all trades and next to my love of mesmers, my ranger is mostly my main because I can have fun doing SOO many different types of builds. God..and I love making those traps and cripping folks XD

Not so much nowadays, but I got some good memories with my ranger(2nd character I've made in gw). Playing yak's bend arena, ascalon arena, it was all fun, especially being at a disadvantage skill wise and really learning how to play and utilize everything such as kiting and picking targets. I think I got lazier when I upgraded my account for factions and elona cause I had more skills.
Some fun pvp builds I used to play in ra,
-Quickshot (w/ dmg boosters) was super fun.
-Blackout ranger was so funny. When the build worked, when it had a good team composition, I could literally stop a caster from doing anything, not like b/o and w/ 3 interrupts on your bar. Small window of opportunity to cast and I can predict even easier.
-Shadowstepping broadhead arrow with rapid fire. daze, bleed, cripple. Can't move, can't cast, can't remove,gl stance blocking if you're fast enough, you can't do nothing but try to time a 1/4 second spell and even that is iffy.

The survivability and relative independence in pvp (for that is what rangers are made for...).

A skilled powerblock mesmer or even psychical distraction is more powerful caster hate than a magebane and a lingering curse necro has more pressure than simply spreading poison with the added - 20% healing. most things can out damage a ranger nowadays and the ridiculous damage output is countered by anything with any kind of self heal. They lack knockdown and deep wound that are the bread and butter for most physicals. but then the other professions are relatively squishy and can't work with the positioning as much in the fear of overextending. A ranger can risk some overextend if it is to d-shot WoW as he can simply ignore melee most times by hitting natural stride and enemy elementalists cry because of your ridiculous elemental armor. The ranger is a team player, he is the one that tries to give you that gap needed to kill the opposing teams party members while they are d-shotted and magebaned on key skills. A mesmer tries to shut down with precision while the ranger relies on luck and counting to try to predict when the enemy is going to use the skill that is of importance to not be cast and make sure that their arrow is already there when they use it. The ranger can survive long enough to make that lucky shot that can turn the tide.

In pve though.. relatively meh.. (but i have fun rolling between pure beastmaster with heal as one and experts dexterity sniper with flatbow, read the wind and asuran scan)

But they are pvp focused after all, and are quite okay at that job.

Depends on if my internet hates me or not bro, but 3/4:s are indeed quite easy to interrupt when adjacent and good ping, but sadly my d-link does not like me... (lol better gaming at the school net :P)

And theres shorter casts than 3/4s... XD

Versatility's what I love about rangers: they're as good in the front lines with melee weapons (see scythe builds, bunny thumpers) as they are when sitting comfortably back, wielding a bow. They can deal awesome amounts of focused or AoE damage (for PvE) or pressure the enemy teams with conditions and interrupts (for PvP) and have excellent survival skills in both cases.
For short, I never get bored when playing on my ranger That's why I have chosen it as my main, with 27 maxed titles
